Omaha poker is a poker variant that appears to be increasingly popular. In general terms it is quite similar to Texas Hold’em: each player should compile the best poker hand. He must combine his own cards with the community cards on the cable. However, there are two major differences:

-          With Omaha Poker, every player receives four personal cards (as opposed to two with Texas Hold’em).
-          Players must compile a poker hand with 5 cards use and they are obliged to use two personal cards and three community cards.

A typical game (Omaha High)

Each hands begins with the two blinds, just like in Texas Hold’em.

  • Hole cards: each players receives four personal cards (face down)
  • The first betting round: starting with the player immediately left from the big blind.
  • Flop:  once the first betting round is over, the dealer placed three cards face-up on the table.
  • The second betting round: same as the first betting round
  • Turn:  the fourth community card (known as ‘turn) is placed face-up on the table.
  • The third round: the same as the first and second betting round, but the stakes are higher.
  • River: the fifth and final community card, also called the ‘river,’ is placed on the table.
  • Fourth betting round: like the previous betting rounds
  • Showdown: the winner is determined on basis of the strongest poker hand
